WIP Wednesday and FNSI Reminder

I’ve been telling myself that I didn’t need a cutting mat, rulers and rotary cutter because I had all those things packed away in storage. But there were projects that I wanted to work on that required those things to be able to cut them out without having to go through the laborious process of making templates of each piece and then pinning and cutting those out.

And while I did that with the black print squares of the jelly roll quilt top I made earlier this spring, I wouldn’t want to have to do that for an entire quilt.  So I finally gave in and bought a brand new 36”X24” cutting mat, a 15”X15” ruler and a 6”X24” ruler. (The cutting mat I have in storage is 24”X18” and my large square ruler is 12”x12” so the only duplicate I’ll have when we finally get settled again will be the 6”X24” ruler.)

Yesterday, I spent the later part of the afternoon and early evening getting projects cut up, ready to sew.

To get familiar with the larger size square ruler and working on a larger cutting mat, I started by kitting up this gift set to have it ready to sew together during Friday Night Sew In (FNSI) this Friday, June 13^th.

I’m really looking forward to joining in this month as it’s been a few months since I’ve been able to take part.

After that I started cutting the fabrics for my Independence Day picnic quilt. (Too late for this year, but we’ll be able to use it next year.)

I managed to get all the red star fabric pieces cut before I lost the light and it got too dark in our daughter’s livingroom/dining room to cut accurately. Today I intend to get the blue print feature fabric pieces cut so that I can start sewing blocks.

I’m also working on two embroidery projects but I can’t share photos of those yet.  One project I’m calling my “Act of Faith” project and the other is something I’m working on for an upcoming embroidery series/stitch-along that I’ll be posting about soon.
