Mini Spools and Doll Quilts Finished!

After all the trouble I had making the spool blocks and then doing the stitch in the ditch quilting, sewing the bindings to the back of the mini spool quilts and doll quilt was a nice relaxing process. It truly is my favorite part of making any quilt.

The doll quilt made using the leftover charms looks like a flower garden busting with color.   So what more appropriate fabric to use on the back than butterflies, ladybugs and caterpillars!   Isn’t it adorable!

With both the front and back being so busy, that did make it difficult to choose a fabric for the binding. When going through my little collection of fat quarters I came across the green with white polka dots that turned out to be an almost perfect match for the greens in both.

As you can see from the photo, I even embroidered a label for it. Now to find a child to give it to!

As I mentioned in this post, I actually made two of the spool quilts. I’m only going to share the front of the one I’m keeping. The second one will be gifted and even though they are the same pattern, the blocks have slightly different fabric combinations so I want that part to be a surprise for the recipient (just in case they happen upon these posts.)

My Mini Spools Quilt from pattern by Thimble Blossoms

I made little hangers for the mini spool quilts by pressing 4” squares of fabric in half on the diagonal and sewing them into the upper corners on the back of the quilts.  I still have to buy some doweling before I can hang mine up.

They each received embroidered labels as well.

I chose to keep the less than perfect one for myself as a gentle reminder that even when some parts of life don’t turn out the way you want them to, they can still work together to make a beautiful life.

Have a wonderful weekend everyone filled with Aloha!! Make it beautiful!!

They are both gorgeous! One of my favourite lines of fabric/designers! Good choice with the polka dot binding.

I made this quilt early this year from scraps and really enjoyed making it but I do have a wonky block in one corner , I call it my wonky spool quilt. Love yours too
