Helping you create a home by hand.

WIP Wednesday – Hand Quilting & Tiny Knitting

Last night while watching the movie Soul Surfer (a truly inspiring movie), I worked on hand-quilting my Christmas Mouse wall hanging.  Quilting with #8 Perle Cotton is really making the quilting stand out; giving it almost a Trapunto effect.

I’m also doing a bit of knitting when I need a break from getting the Hexie Turtle pattern ready for testing.

Knitting Tiny Christmas Stockings

Shortly after I posted about the Hexie Turtle’s Snow Adventure, long time reader, Stephanie D e-mailed me a pattern for Tiny Christmas Socks that her mother made for her and her siblings and then their children each year for Christmas.   The pattern calls for knitting them flat and then sewing the side seam but I’m converting it to knitting in the round so that once I’m finished all I need to do is weave in the ends.

I couldn’t find the angora trim that her mother used for the cuff of the socks so I’m using Vanna’s Glamour Diamond from Lion Brand.  For the body of the socks, I’m using the Lion Brand Bonbon Metallic scraps leftover from making the Elven Winter Wear.

What are you working on today?

Your wee wall hanging is so cute – I really like the quilting done with the heavier thread. As for me – I’m working on the king-sized quilt top and have it nearly done. Then it’s on to the matching queen.

Brilliant idea to knit in the round…never considered it. Small project for instant gratification. Thanks, Sue. Your embroidery is quite wonderful, too.

I’m making split pea soup in the crockpot, using the leftover bone and some meat from our Easter ham. We will have (Better Homes & Gardens recipe) cornbread and a green salad with it for dinner. It’s been chilly and a bit rainy (Thank goodness!) in northern California, so it’s a good early spring meal.

Lately, I’ve discovered scrap quilting and my goal is to make as many bed-sized quilts as possible for friends and family while using up my stash. After moving three states away…and back!…I’m firmly convinced my fabric will not sew itself, so I’d better get busy.

I love red and white quilts! This is so cute — that little mouse must have been so much work. It is looking great.
