People Throw Out the Most Amazing Things

People Throw Out the Most Amazing Things

I love my morning walks.  Not only are they good for my physical, emotional and mental health… they provide me with the most fun and interesting finds.  Remember the two chairs I found on the curb that had been put out for garbage pick up that Dave turned into one good chair.

Well yesterday, I found something that still has me smiling every time I think of it.  Look at this treasure that was on the curb about half a block down from us.

My New Cutting tableThis beautiful drop leaf table is solid wood!

We’re not sure what kind of wood but Dave says he’ll have a better idea once he gets it sanded.

If you look closely at the picture above, you can see it has its original casters.

It may look a little care worn and beat up right now but it turns out that all those scratches are only surface scratches.  After giving it a thorough once over, Dave says it shouldn’t take long to get it sanded down and refinished.

It is destined to become a new cutting table for my sewing room/office.

When I’m not using it, the drop leafs will remain down.  Then when I am using it, I’ll have the option of leaving them down or raising one or both depending what I project I’m working on at the time and the amount of cutting surface I need.

Dave has one final steel wool sanding, then a coat of poly to apply to the desk he and our middle daughter have been refinishing for her and then he can start on the table.  I can’t wait!!  🙂

Very similar to a table my grandmother gave me about 30 years ago. Great find!

Great find!! It’s so nice that they put it out for someone to find and love, rather then send it off to the dump. My aunt and uncle pretty much furnished their house with furniture he found at the dump, took home, and refinished. They had some really beautiful furniture.

How could they possibly have parted with it? Or was it put out deliberately for someone to find..?

I love your neighborhood. =) That beats my find of a small table where the whole top drops to one side. There is a little damage to the top where someone put something, probably hot, on it – but it doesn’t break the finish and I just put a little table topper over it. The top is about a foot square and it’s just so cute! I always wonder why people don’t donate things that are worthwhile still, but they don’t, so benefit for us!

The desk for my printer and other things is also a trash find. Nothing fancy, but it’s worked perfectly for me for five years! My son has a nice dresser he picked up when someone was moving out. The man’s grandfather made it and he just didn’t have a place for it in his new house. Dave takes things a step farther by making things nice and new again! I look forward to seeing what he’s done to this table.

What a great find! Can’t wait to see how it turns out.
this spring I picked a Janome sewing machine out someone’s large item pickup. Picked it for the case then saw it was a Janome about the same as my Pfaff 1222 from the late 70’s. Cleaned it, changed the needle, found bobbins (lucky – included in a kijiji purchase the year before)- it works find and I’m giving to a college student who has borrowed one of my machines.
    Waiting for pictures.

I love old drop leaf tables, so glad you rescued this one! At times I leave the signs of age, after all, we all get wrinkles eventually. Can’t wait to see how it looks after it’s refinished. I’ve recently seen some interesting things done with the backs of old chairs. People have turned them into very interesting racks with part of the seat as a small shelf.
