Vintage Embroidery Monday & Stitchery Link Party #26

Vintage Embroidery Monday & Stitchery Link Party #26

We’ve had a gloomy, rainy weekend here with winds cold enough to have me wearing a hat, gloves and fleecy for my morning walks.  I’m in need of a bit of fun, cuteness and this week’s vintage Workbasket embroidery pattern for a pair of kitten potholders does the trick.

Vintage Workbasket pattern for Kitty Potholder Right from page #89Vintage Workbasket pattern for Kitty Potholder Left from Page #89After stitching the kittens, cut them out leaving 1/2″ seam allowance.   Place backing fabric right side up, add two layers of batting or a layer of Insul-Bright, then kitten embroidery right side down.  Sew together leaving an opening for turning.  Turn right side out, sew opening closed.  Attach hanging loop as indicated by the dotted lines on the pattern.   The hanging loop becomes one of the ears.  (See small kitten.)

Stitchery Link Party #25 Give Away

The winner of the lovely Pyramid Pouch filled with embroidery goodies is:

Winner of the Stitchery Link Party #25 Giveaway

Congratulations Carol from Beads and Birds. I’ll be sending off an e-mail asking for your mailing address so I can get it sent off to you.

For those who are newly subscribed or are visiting for the first time, every Monday I host a link party in which I invite others to share their hand embroidery projects.

If you’ve never linked up to a link party before and would like to join in, I’ve written a quick tutorial called How to Link Up to a Link Party to help you not only link up to this party but to any link party you might like to participate in.

The rules for the Stitchery Link Party are simple:

1. The project can be anything as long as it includes embroidery stitches in some form. Such projects might be but are not limited to redwork, blackwork, goldwork, bluework, (etc), counted cross-stitch, crazy quilting, crewel, silk ribbon, pulled thread, hardanger and sashiko.

These projects do not have to be vintage or vintage inspired. All styles are welcome as long as it’s hand embroidered.

2. Link directly to your blog post, not to your blog home page.

3. If you happen to sell your embroidery or embroidery patterns, feel free to link up to a blog post you’ve written about a project you’re selling, but No direct links to shops or websites selling things.

4. This will be a curated link party. In other words, if a link does not conform to the three simple rules above, it will be removed.

The next three are more requests than rules.   They are by no means a requirement to take part in the party:

5. Please link back to the Stitchery Link Party with a text link somewhere in your post. Or if you’d prefer you can use the cool button that our son designed for me.

Simply copy and paste the code you’ll find under the button in my left side bar. You can add it to your post or to the sidebar of your blog.  (Please note:  For those of you who have already been kind enough to add the button, the coding has been updated and I would so appreciate it if you would grab the new code.)

6. As well, please share the love and visit one or two (or more) of the other links and take time to leave a comment.

7. I would, of course, love it if you decide to follow me but it’s not necessary in order to take part in the link party. (If you do decide to follow me, you can subscribe to e-mail updates in the box on the upper right hand side bar. You will then be sent an activation e-mail.  Once you click on the link in that e-mail, you will begin receiving updates each time I post.  Buttons to follow me on other social media are in the upper left hand side bar.)

I would be so pleased if you chose to share by clicking on one of the buttons below!

Yay for Carol! She’s going to love all those goodies I know. I missed the link up this week (again). I really do need to get my act together, don’t I. Those kitties are super cute – love their little noses!

Thanks! That’s such a cute potholder. I couldn’t download last night, and I don’t know if it was your site or my computer, but it just wouldn’t come up. All is fine this morning, though!

Re: Tracing. – I forgot to say, be sure to pin your tracing securely to your fabric before commencing ironing! (Some of my friends didn’t pin and their transfers had double lines, so be warned, do pin). Barbara xx

Congrats Carol. I haven’t done any crafting this week so I’ll have to wait to join in later.

I love those kitten mitten potholders, so cute.

I agree with CathieJ that tracing can be tricky, and have just started a crewel pattern, having to trace the pattern. I used a tracing pencil and then ironed the tracing on to my fabric – I was told to press hard when tracing, and keep the line continuous. Then when ironing the transfer I was told I had to press hard with the iron. It did the trick for me.

    Congratulations to Carol. Barbara xx

Those pot holder might actually make me try this technique. I have to admit that the tracing part is what makes me nervous more than the stitching and assembling. These are so cute.
