First Finish of the New Year

First Finish of the New Year

I had so much planned for the first two weeks of the new year and yet here we are half way through week three and I have so much to catch up on.  I had a horrible after Christmas cold and lingering cough that has zapped my energy levels. I get as much done around the house as I can while my energy is high and then rest when I’m feeling tired.

I have spent many afternoons sitting with my feet up either knitting or doing some hand stitching. If you follow me @supermomnocape on instagram you’ll have seen a few of the in progress photos.

Back around the beginning of December, I was admiring a lovely skein of yarn that Kristyn @melonpatchquilts had posted. I commented how much I envied those who can knit with and wear wool and that I’d just have to live vicariously through those who aren’t allergic to it.

Kristyn replied, “I have some really beautiful bamboo and nylon sock yarn. Want me to send you a ball?

Now how sweet was that!

The next day, I found that beautiful ball of yarn in my mailbox. Kristyn had dropped it off while she was running errands. What Kristyn didn’t know was that it was my birthday.

Wait until you see the name of the yarn and you’ll know why her gift has me smiling all over again even as I write this post.

Here’s the finished the scarf/shawl that I made with it.

Magrathea Shawl

The pattern is Magrathea by designer Martina Behm.

The 75% Bamboo/20% Nylon yarn (Color #2531 Parrot) is incredibly soft to the touch. I must confess that I’ve already worn it, even though it has yet to have the points of the lace edge blocked.

Yarn used to make Magrathea Shawl

I can’t for the life of me find the file on my computer where I saved the pictures of the making of it so to see in progress photos, please head over to @supermomnocape.

The beautiful yarn bowl is the one Dave made for me last summer.

I don’t know which I like better – the shawl or the yarn bowl!

It’s wonderful that there are now so many lovely yarns for those who can’t use or wear wool. And didn’t it turn out well!

I love the bowl, too. The shawl is fabulous, what great color. You got all that from one ball?

    Very pretty finish!

I’ve had a cold for about 3 weeks now, and the cough is just hanging around… ugh.

I’ll bet the yarn felt heavenly to work with too. Your scarf is so pretty.

Belated happy birthday. I hope the year ahead will be a great one for you.
