A Lovely Morning to Sit Outside and Write

It is a glorious spring day here today and for the first time since last fall, I was able to sit outside this morning to do a bit of writing. The sun was warming my skin, there was the gentlest of breezes and the song birds were providing background music!

I have lots of sewing and quilting projects in the works but only one small finish to share with you this week.

At the end of a writers’ meeting that I attended recently, one of the other writers asked for my website and e-mail address. I tore off a piece of paper from my notebook and wrote it down for her but at the time I was thinking how much more professional it would have looked if I’d just been able to hand her my business card.

The problem was… I don’t have business cards or rather I didn’t. A package of Avery Clean Edge Business Cards, design help from our son and I now have new business cards.

Then, of course, I needed something to put them in to keep them organized in my purse. I looked at several different tutorials but couldn’t find anything that I really liked. Then I remembered the sew-in frame pouch (scroll down to see it) that our future son-in-law had requested for Christmas a few years ago to carry his business cards in.

I rummaged through the scrap drawer of my fabric dresser and turned up a small piece of the Laurel Burch panel that wasn’t used in my Holiday Celebrations quilt. It was just the right size for the front.

Another search through my craft supplies and I found a black sew-in purse frame the correct shape and size. An evening of cutting and sewing and this is the result:

For the side gussets and back, I used LB Basics Black w/Gold Dots by Laurel Burch for Clothworks. The lining is made from a scrap of lovely, bright, candy apple red with gold dots that I found in my stash.

My business cards slide in and out easily any time I need them.

I think I may just have to make a couple more of these to carry in my laptop bag and to store the extra cards.  Maybe one with some pretty embroidery.  Or with ladybugs!  Maybe one with both!!  🙂

Oh I guess I do have one more non-sewing finish to share with you. In addition to the 7 quarts chicken vegetable soup we canned earlier this week. We also canned 8 pints of homemade pea soup.

8 pints of home canned pea soup

I am so enjoying being able to can again and adding healthy, nutritious food to our cold room.

The pint jars you see in the background are plain water. We use them to fill up the space in our All American Canner. The bonus is that we also have clean, sterilized water in case of emergency.

I would be so pleased if you chose to share by clicking on one of the buttons below!

I love your business card holder. How fortunate you had such lovely scraps left over that fit your needs perfectly! I’d be finding excuses to hand out my cards if I had this card holder. Lovely.

Having business cards is such a great idea. I used to carry them back in the day when I was making things on commission but I haven’t had any for several years. Might have to make up a few just to have in my purse.
