FNwF and Introducing Rexie

As yesterday was the first Friday of the month, Cheryl over at Gone Stitchin’ was once again hosting Friday Night with Friends. FNwF is a virtual sew-in similar to FNSI hosted by Heidi and Bobbie on the last Friday of each month. And since I already had a project I wanted to work on, I signed up to sew with several other ladies from around the world.

I got started late Friday afternoon and within a little over an hour and using a hexie flower I’d made earlier this week, I had my newest hexie turtle.

Rexie the Hexie Turtle

I’ve decided to call this one Rexie.

Here he is with Lexie and her BFF, Lanie.

You can read Lexie’s story here and her BFF here.

We are still figuring out how to make their eyes, but Dave came up with an idea last night that we think might just work and if it does, I’ll post some updated photos later today or tomorrow.

I changed the head again slightly for this third version and I think this time I’ve got it. I don’t have to stitch the back of the head to the turtle like I did for Lexie and the head sits more upright than it does on Lanie.

So… with the basic pattern pieces all finally worked out, after supper, I started on some new hexie flowers to use for the step-by-step photos that we’ll be taking for the pattern I’m creating for Lexie the Hexie Turtle.

I managed to get the one pictured below finished except for the final four outside petals which I sewed on this morning.

All in all, a very satisfying first Friday Night with Friends. You can see what everyone else worked on by going to the sign-up post here.

Rexie is so cute, as are Lexie and Lanie. Rexie’s head does seem to sit better, not that I would have noticed if you hadnt mentioned it so the other 2 have good heads too.

Yes, hexagons can be quite addictive and it is amazing what you can do with them. Lexie and Lanie are so cute. Will pop back over to see how the eyes turn out.
