How to Make Homemade Paninis – Without a Panini Press

With it being so hot here in Northwest Georgia, we’re trying to do most of our cooking outside.  One of our favourite quick, easy summer meals is Paninis.  Here’s how we make ours without a fancy Panini Press.

First, to make the spread:  Mix ½ c Miracle Whip with ¼ c Spicy Brown Mustard.

Lay out your thinly sliced bread (here we used tomato basil bread I picked up from Panera.)

Spread with Miracle Whip mixture.

Place one or two slices of honey maple ham (or your favourite meat) on half the bread slices.  Add several slices of very thinly sliced green pepper.

Bread with ham and peppers

Next layer on thin slices of baby swiss (or your favourite cheese.)

Layer Cheese on top

Brush top of sandwich with olive oil.

Flip sandwiches over and brush the other side with olive oil.

Place sandwiches on preheated cast iron grill. (<-affiliate link)

Place on preheated grill

Place cookie sheet on top and weigh it down with a heavy cast iron fry pan. (<-affiliate links)

Place heavy pan on top

Grill for sixty seconds or till lightly browned.

Remove the fry pan and cookie sheet.  And flip the sandwiches.

Flip them

Replace cookie sheet and fry pan and grill for another 60 seconds or til done.

Enjoy perfectly grilled paninis!

I am comin’ to your house for lunch, and I’m bringing Nancy — YAYYYYYYYYYY paninis @ supermoms – we’ll bring salad and a dessert, LOL!!

The sandwiches look yummy – I’ve never been to Panera but if they have tomato basil bread I’ll be happy to go check them out, lol! I think there’s one in the next town – maybe we’ll do a “road trip” this weekend!

Your posts titles show up on my blog list. My first thought when I read “How to Make Homemade Paninis – Without a Panini Press” was “did she use her iron on the LINEN setting?”. Glad to see you did them on the BBQ! I’ll have to try making them, they look amazing.
