In Our Garden & Two Other BOMs

In Our Garden & Two Other BOMs

It’s been a busy week here!

Those of you who follow me on instagram @supermomnocape may have noticed that I’ve been attending weekly webinars hosted by Bonnie of Hobby to Hot and BYBC (Build Your Blog Conference). The webinars are pre-conference training leading up to the conference itself February 19 & 20th.

I’m learning so much but figuring out how to implement those lessons has been cutting into my crafting time… in a good way!

However yesterday, on the verge of information overload from re-watching Tuesday’s and the previous webinar replays, I just had to take a break and get in some sewing therapy.

First, I searched through the scrap drawer of my fabric dresser and pulled fabrics to make Amy’s applique block from the In Our Garden Blog Hop that started on Monday.

Here’s what I’ve chosen so far:

Fabric pull for Block #2 of In Our Garden BOM

I realized just now looking at the photo that I’d forgotten to pick out scraps for Toady’s eyes! I can’t have a sightless toad. I’ll have to go digging in the scrap drawer again.

I still need to pick out a background fabric that I’ll use for all the blocks in the hop. I’m thinking a light blue might work.

Now if you clicked on the link to my fabric dresser you would think that I’d have more than enough fabric for any project I wanted to make. Not so, not so!

Cindy over at Quilt Doodle Doodles is hosting a “Tis the Season” BOM. When I went searching for browns to make the adorable reindeer blocks for January, I didn’t have a single piece of brown big enough to make even one block let alone five.

So on the weekend, middle daughter and I made a trip to Len’s Mill to check out their clearance section. They were having a 50% off sale in their already reduced section.

I bought a 1/2 meter each of these… more than enough to make the reindeer blocks and to rectify that alarming lack of browns in my stash.

Then as I was standing at the fabric counter waiting for those to be cut, what should I see but a display for a Canadian Mystery BOM which will feature blocks from each of the provinces.

As you can see… the kits are a little pricey, so I’m not sure I’ll be buying the whole set. But I simply couldn’t resist the Nunavut block with the Inuksuk!

I always wash all my fabrics before using them, so I serged the edges of each piece in the kit, threw them in the washer with the rest of the clothes (appropriately sorted) and now they’re ready to be turned into that beautiful block.

Yesterday afternoon, I did get down to some actual sewing but I’m going to save that until tomorrow to show you. This evening, Dave is flying home from Calgary for a 10 day break after being gone for a month.

I’m baking chicken with honey mustard garlic sauce for supper and I need to get that in the oven before I head to the airport to pick him up.

I’m so excited, I’ve got butterflies in my stomach. You’d think we were newly weds instead of getting ready to celebrate our 33rd anniversary next week!

I would be so pleased if you chose to share by clicking on one of the buttons below!

Lens Mills – ah, one of my favourite places but I hardly ever get to go. They’ve just opened a new one in Barrie where our son lives so maybe I’ll be able to wrangle a visit in the next while. I love that frog pattern and the Canadian one too – what fun to follow your progress on these!

What great projects you are planning. I have to investigate In the Garden. I like the Canadian one you bought. I’ll look forward to seeing your progress on each of these. If I can’t do them all myself, the next best thing is to watch someone else do them!
