Happy Fabric on a Fall Day

Earlier this week, it showed up in my Facebook news feed that Sew Sisters Quilt Shop had updated their cover photo and I immediately recognized the photo as Me and My Sisters fabric line Good Morning for Moda.  I absolutely adore all the fabric lines from Me and My Sister Designs.  They are such happy fabrics.  (Early this year, I made a jelly roll 1600 quilt from Twirl.)

So this morning on the way back from dropping our son off at work, we made a detour to stop in at Sew Sisters.

I went in with the intention to check out Good Morning and also to find a fat quarter to match a swatch of fabric I had with me.  This is what I came home with:

A charm pack of Good Morning, the coordinating fabric I wanted and two cute little hexie kits.  I’ve been wanting to try making hexies for a while and these kits give me the perfect little take along project.

Sew Sisters has lots of these mini kits made up in brights and also in 30s reproduction prints.   There were several examples of the finished hexie flowers and it was really difficult to choose but in the end I decided to go with the brights.  They’ve also posted a hexie tutorial on their blog, if you’d like to check it out.

Oh and I also picked up this pattern.

As we’ve been traveling from place to place and I stopped into quilt shops along the way, I couldn’t always justify buying yardage, but what was a fat quarter or two added to the suitcase.  As you can imagine, it doesn’t take long with that kind of reasoning to have more fat quarters than you know what to do with.

The finished quilt (38″x45″) uses 8 fat quarters.  It will be ideal for using up some of those fat quarters I’ve accumulated over the past several months.

And finally, I just had to share this photo that Dave took at a local park where we go to walk in the mornings.

The trees are slow coming into their full fall colours this year but some of them are starting their display like the one above.  I love the various shades of orange on this tree.  It reminds me a little of this quilt that I can’t wait to finish when we get settled somewhere again and can get our things out of storage.

Happy Fall Everyone!
