Bloggers’ Quilt Festival – My Mini Quilt Entry

Amy over at Amy’s Creative Side is hosting her semi-annual Bloggers’ Quilt Festival again and since I missed taking part in the fall festival, I wanted to make sure to enter this time around. (Last spring I entered this quilt that I made of our middle daughter.)

I haven’t had as much time to blog or to sew for the past several months because I’ve been working on completing my novel. But when I was searching through photos of the sewing that I did manage to get done this past year, I realized there was one project that I hadn’t shared here on my blog.

Way back in June of last year, I signed up to take part in the Santa Sack Swap. Our swap partners could choose between receiving a stocking, a sack or a tote. My partner, Judith chose to receive a stocking. The more I learned about Judith from our e-mails back and forth, the more I knew that I needed that stocking to be extra special. I came up with half a dozen or more possible ideas before settling on the one pictured below.

Embroidered Quilted Christmas Stocking

The center panel of the front of the stocking is embroidered with three angels and the year.   (The pattern for the embroidery was a free pattern from Red Brolly.) Then I added a chevron strip made from half square triangles to the top and the bottom of the embroidered panel. I can’t tell you how pleased I was that the points all lined up and none of them got cut off when I was sewing the stocking together!

I even added a chevron strip to the back of the stocking.

Back of stocking with chevron panel to match those on the front

The stocking was machine quilted using simple straight line quilting.

There isn’t a category in the Blogger’s Quilt Festival specifically for quilted stockings so I’ve entered it into the Mini Quilt Category as the stocking would measure less than 80 inches around.

I would be so pleased if you chose to share by clicking on one of the buttons below!

It’s ellen from 15septemberarts. Thanks for commenting on my quilted pillow. I love your stocking. Especially the combination of quilting and embroidery. I have pictures of the stockings I did for my family. The post is in “draft form” but I will post it maybe in the fall. I will follow your blog. Would love to hear more about your novel. Also, I live in the Tampa/St. Petersburg area.
