Even Small Finishes and Progress is Good

What a busy week it’s been!! No big projects completed but I’ve been making progress in several areas and that feels good.

I did manage to complete the matching scissor keep and pincushion to go along with the zipper pouch and thimble pip.

The zip pouch and pincushion were sewn on that lovely Singer 15-91.

In addition to that, I was able to finish two more miniature mitten, hat and scarf sets.

Blue and Purple Mini Mittens, Hat and Scarf Sets

After completing eight sets over a period of time, I’m finally satisfied with the pattern instructions so it can now be sent to others to test.

And last but definitely not least…

In January, I joined the London Writers’ Society after attending their first meeting of the new year. London’s Writer-in-Residence, Gary Barwin was the guest speaker for the evening. Gary gave a wonderful, inspiring talk in which he mentioned that writers could book an appointment with him to discuss projects they are working on.

I’ll admit that it took me a couple of days to work up the courage to e-mail the library and arrange that appointment. The first one available was for January 27th. He’s a busy man!

Monday morning I e-mailed him the first chapter of my novel (we were encouraged to send him up to 15 pages beforehand) and then spent all of Monday and Tuesday on pins and needles waiting for our appointment.

Despite being incredibly nervous by the time the appointment rolled around, I’m pleased to say that our meeting went very well. It was great to receive such positive and encouraging feedback as well as concrete suggestions.

My heart did a little skip when he asked if I wanted to come back for another appointment.  Of course, I said yes. My next appointment is Feb 3rd.

One of my goals for this year is to create a more balanced schedule where I spend the first part of my day writing fiction. And the second half of my day and evenings working on sewing, crafting, writing patterns and updating my blogs. I was less than successful in creating that balance for the month of January but we start a new month on Sunday!
