Last Minute Gifts to Sew

Last Minute Gifts to Sew

Had you planned to make handmade gifts this year but time got away from you and here we are this close to Christmas and you didn’t get everything done that you wanted to get done?

Or perhaps you have some unexpected guests coming Christmas day and you’d like to have a gift under the tree for them to open but braving the shops at this time of year just isn’t something you want to do.

No need to panic… there’s still time to sew a few last minute gifts!

I’ve put together a list of some of my most popular, quick to sew tutorials that will help you complete your gift giving list.

Prairie Point Star Ornaments

If you like hand sewing… you could sew up several of these Prairie Point Star Ornaments in an afternoon.

Here’s one made from 16 different Christmas Charm Squares and a button center.

Or they can be made with 2 contrasting fabrics and a ribbon flower center.

One Hour Table Runner

If hand sewing isn’t your thing and you only have a couple of hours to spare to sew… these One Hour Table Runners are beautiful gifts that can be made in either Christmas fabrics or fabrics to match the recipients decor. In 2 hours you’ll have 2 finished tablerunners to gift.

Here’s an example of what they’d look like in Christmas fabrics:

Tissue Box Covers

How about these Reversible Tissue Box Covers.

Use Christmas fabric for one side and the other side could be made for another holiday, such as Valentine’s Day or in fabric to match their home decor.

Charm Square Soup Bowl Cozies

Do you have a college student to sew for? Make them a set of these Charm Square Soup Bowl Cozies.

Just remember… a college student would likely be using them in the microwave, so be sure to use only 100% cotton fabric and thread and batting with no polyester scrim.

These soup bowl cozies would also make great gifts for anyone who likes to eat while working at the computer or watching TV.

If you know for sure that they won’t be used in the microwave, they can be made with whatever good quality fabric and batting you have on hand.

Travel Laundry Bag

Another quick gift to sew that would be perfect for either a college student or someone who loves to travel are these Travel Laundry Bags.

They’ll easily hold up to a week’s worth of dirty laundry.

Patchwork Fleece Scarf

One of these Patchwork Fleece Scarves will keep them warm all winter. They’re super quick to sew and you can dig into your scrap drawer to complete several in a few hours.

Do you have a little one you need a gift for?

Reversible Adjustible Child’s Apron

Reversible Adjustible Aprons only take 3 fat quarters to make and because the strap is adjustible you won’t have to worry that they will outgrow them too soon.

Doll Bedding

Or how about making some bedding for a doll cradle or doll bed. In the How to Make Bedding for a Doll Cradle, I show you how to make bedding to fit any size doll cradle or bed.

Hopefully this list has given you some ideas for last minute gifts you can sew in time to have them wrapped and under the tree for Christmas morning.

That cradle looks a lot like the one my grandfather made for my dolls when I was a child!
