Pincushions on Parade

Pincushions on Parade

Ida over at My Sister Made Me Do It is hosting a fun link party called the Perfectly Pleasing Pincushion Parade.

I have three pincushions that I use the most.

Three Pincushions I use the most

Starting on the right is the ladybug pincushion that was a gift from my swap partner Terry in the 2014 Santa Sack Swap.

Next to it in the middle is a sachet turned pincushion I made from a square of fabric on which I’d embroidered a heart from one of the small motifs on Workbasket pattern page 84.  After it was stuffed and sewn closed, I crocheted a simple edging around all four sides.

The one on the left is a pincushion/needle wallet combination.  When I made my version of the Sweet and Spotty Needle Wallet, I added a layer of batting under the embroidered section on the front of the wallet to give it a raised look and the bonus was that I’ve found it to be a great pincushion when I’m hand sewing bindings, etc.

Then I have this pincushion that lives in my embroidery bag.

Pincushion from Katherine

It was part of my Pay it Forward gift from Katherine over at Sew Me Something Good.   Her gift to me also included the cute matching zipper pouch and the pink needle book (not to mention. other goodies.) I’ll confess that the pouch has, on occasion, had a needle or two stuck in it as well.

Lastly… there is this huge pincushion that I won for participating in a Friday Night Sewn In back in 2011 when it was being hosted by Heidi and Bobbie.

FNSI Pincushion

I have to admit that this one doesn’t get used much at all as a pincushion.  At 10″X6″ it’s just too big.  But it does get used as a paperweight when I have the fan going and don’t want pattern pages scattered all over the place.

In order for this not to be a very short parade, I thought I’d also show you some of the pincushions I’ve made and given as gifts.

I added a small 3″ square pincushion on each of the Chatelaines I made our daughters for Christmas last year.

Each Chatelaine included a thimble pip, scissor keep and pincushion.

This pincushion with matching zip pouch and sewing companion was made for my 2013 Santa Sack Swap partner Judith.

In fact, quite often I make pincushions to include in sewing kits.  Such as this photo of two kits that I was making back in 2012 to send out as thank you gifts to bloggers who had inspired me.

The little cutie below was part of a matching set of sewing companion, tiny needlebook and pincushion that I featured in my Christmas on a Budget Series: One Hour Gifts to Sew.

Pincushions are such fun items to give and to receive.  I hope you’ve enjoyed my Pincushion Parade.

Oddly enough, I’m about to embark on making some pincushions for Christmas gifts, so great minds must be thinking (somewhat) alike! I think mine are going to include little strawberries filled with emery. I was gifted with a jar of it, so I think I will share some by making the strawberries.

What lovely pincushions, all! Who says needles can’t be in pincushions? They fit quite well! And all the different pincushions you seem to have found use for them all so that is what it’s all about. Thanks so much for joining the parade!

Even by the end of the post your ladybug pincushion is still my favorite! I made myself a needle book a few years back that ends up being used as pincushion at times too. Well, more like a needle cushion. ;- )

I DID enjoy that! I love pincushions and needlebooks. I have quite a collection of one and am building the other, too. I guess I’m going to have to give in and go post some of mine, too, if the Linky is still open.
