Ridiculously Pleased With Myself

Last summer, I bought a couple of little hexie kits from Sew Sisters shop in Toronto.  And while I discovered that I enjoyed the process of making hexie flowers, I did not like the finished flowers themselves.  Here’s one of them:

Hexie Flower

Oh how I wished those pink hexies with the bold prints had been fussie cut.

Now I realize that a quilt shop doesn’t have time to fussie cut all the little hexies to put in their kits but I decided after making the second one and still not being pleased with the finished flower, not to buy anymore kits in the series.

I was left with two hexie flowers that I had no idea what to do with… until today that is.

Allow me to introduce Lexie the Hexie Turtle:

Isn’t  she just the cutest little turtle you ever saw!

I started smiling as I was drawing out the pattern pieces.  My smiles turned to giggles as I was sewing her together and seeing what was in my mind’s eye come to life.   I was making Dave laugh because all of the sudden I’d start giggling with glee again.

She still needs eyes and I might tweak the pattern a bit, but I am a so thrilled with how she turned out, I may just be asking for pattern testers again in the near future.

Have you ever made something and been so ridiculously pleased with yourself and your creation that you can’t stop smiling?

The Lexie the Hexie Turtle Pattern is available to purchase in my shop.

      Hello Tobie,

Lexie the Hexie turtle is about 6.5″ from the tip of her nose to the tip of her tail. And her new BFF (in the next post) is a bit longer at 7 1/4″. Their shells are 4.5″ across. So they aren’t very big at all.

For years, we collected all manner of turtle art and figures. I love this one, and will volunteer for the pattern test. Nicely done!
