Story of Love Ever After Continues

Cutting the Cake
Cutting the Cake

Twenty-six years ago today, Dave and I promised to always love and be there for each other.  And even when we are separated by miles, I know that I am ever in his heart and he in mine.  If asked to give advice to young people, this is what I say,

“When seeking a life partner, choose wisely.  Find someone who turns on your mind, as well as your body.   Someone who will be your best friend.  Before committing your heart, make sure they are worthy of your love, your trust and your respect.  And if you want to eventually have children, make sure they are the type of person you want raising your children.”

On that day, twenty-six years ago, I did not know what the future held for us.  I did not know that we would be posted to Germany and have our two daughters there.  I did not know that we’d have a son while posted to Suffield in southern Alberta.  Or we’d celebrate our 20th Anniversary with a Recommitment Ceremony while living on Maui.

But I did know that the man holding my hand to cut our wedding cake, was a man worthy of the love, trust and respect I held for him.  And he remains so to this day.

To that man, I say,

“Happy Anniversary, Dave.  Wherever life takes us, I will glady go, as long as we go together.  Always and forever.”

    Thank you, Katherine and Cindy.

And Cindy… I hope that your friend finds the kind of enduring love that I spoke of in my post.

    Happy Anniversary!!

Those words really do sum up in very little words what every relationship needs to be based on. I wish I would have had that insight when I was younger and not thinking correctly!! But I am forwarding your quote to a friend now who needs to hear those exact words, I haven’t been able to form them so properly for her. I could tell her what not to do, not what to do!

    Have the greatest of days!

    Happy 26th Anniversary!
Wonderful words of wisdom in choosing a life partner, Sue. You put into words exactly what I was looking for and have in my husband of 18 years.
Wishing you many more years of happiness together.
