The Best Ever Homemade Cranberry Sauce

The Best Ever Homemade Cranberry Sauce

Sometimes when you’re getting ready for a big holiday meal, it can be tempting to buy ready made cranberry sauce in a can. After all, it’s one less thing to worry about preparing, right?

I know I did it for years!

Then several years ago, I decided to try making our own. I was shocked!

Not only was it super simple to make, it tasted so much better!

If you’ve never made homemade cranberry sauce then I encourage you to give it a try this year.

It really couldn’t be simpler and once you’ve tried it, you’ll never go back to store bought ever again!

Best Ever Homemade Cranberry Sauce

The following recipe will yield approximately 1.5 cups of Cranberry Sauce:

6 oz of fresh or frozen organic cranberries

¼ c freshly squeezed organic orange juice

Zest of one organic orange (approximately 1 tbsp)

½ c organic cane sugar

Zest the orange, cut it in half and squeeze the juice.

Add the cranberries, orange zest, orange juice and sugar to a small sauce pan.

Cook on medium heat for approximately 15 to 20 minutes.

The cranberries will start to burst. You may even hear a popping sound.

Continue to cook, stirring occasionally until the sauce has been reduced to the thickness that you like.

Best Ever Homemade Cranberry Sauce - cooking down

Towards the end of the cooking you may want to mash the berries that have not burst on their own.

Be careful as the sauce will be very hot!

Pour the sauce into a serving bowl and allow to cool.

I love homemade cranberry sauce and make it every Thanksgiving. Sadly, my adult children prefer the canned jellied sauce. I may try this recipe this year. Thanks for sharing.
